A Wedding Affair

Nayr and I went for the auditions for "A Wedding Affair" over the last weekend, on Sat.

Our assigned timing was 10.30am & we arrived early, then waited at reception until about 10.45am before this lady came to pick us. It was interesting to see other couples, of various ages, races and wearing different outfits (We were surprised as we were told specifically to wear formal, as if to attend a wedding).

Being the last couple in our batch (and the oldest too! haha!), our turn will only be around 12.30pm. So Nayr & I asked for permission to leave and come back exactly at 12.30pm as we had errands to run. And luckily we did that, or it will be silly waitin there and doin nothin...

It was overall, a fun experience! There were three parts in total, interviews and poses, with video recording. And it was nice that Nayr got to meet his mediacorp friends too. =)

The waiting part was quite unbearable though. Nayr calls it the 耐力比赛. The whole thing ended only at 4.30pm! Luckily, both of us were chit-chatting, people-watchin and entertaining ourselves all the while... We saw some couples got quite irritated and grouchy..

anyway, heard fr KF that situatuion improved on Sunday. Good that they improved on the flow.

Hmmm, wonder when will results be out?

Best Ayam Penyet (so far) in Singapore – Don’t Pray Pray!

Nayr and I recently became super avid fans of Ayam Penyet!

It started with Nayr getting introduced to it by his colleagues at lunch.

When Nayr and I went to Bintan in Aug last year, he got me to try it. I finally understood how he could fall in love with the spicy concoction, for someone who does not really fancy chilli!

We soon embarked on our search for the best ayam penyet in Singapore. There are plenty of food reviews on the web, and it seemed “Sri Bistari” stall is voted to serve the best ayam penyet in Singapore! They even have a website, pls see: http://www.sbestfood.com/sribistari.

We went one day to look for the Sri Bistari stall at Beach Road Hawker Centre, opposite Golden Mile Complex. To our disappointment, it was the shop’s day off, so it was closed! By that time, both of us were super hungry and were bent on wanting nothing else but ayam penyet for dinner. There are plenty of other stalls selling ayam penyet, so we tried this stall at B1-26. It was simply called "Nasi Ayam Penyet Stall".

To our pleasant surprise, the ayam penyet from the stall was simply delicious! Somehow, the chilli was not too spicy and just right for our tastebuds. The chicken’s fresh and crispy and there was a variety of sides to go along with the hot, fragrant rice. (there were keropok pieces, fried peanut sticks, cucumber & tomato slices and a bowl of chicken soup).

When we returned the next time and tried the Sri Bistari stall, the ayam penyet there somehow do not taste as nice as the one at B1-26. We found the chilli sambal too spicy for us and there was not much variety of sides. The serving was also not as generous as the other stall’s.

So, the verdict goes:

The Best Ayam Penyet in Singapore (so far tested, at least) is the one from B1-26

(clap clap clap)

Our verdict was confirmed - we tried the B1-26 stall again the third time we were there)

P.S. Ayam Penyet is a chicken dish from Indonesia, which means, in Bahasa Indonesia, 'flattened chicken'. The dish originates from Surabaya, capital of Indonesia's East Java province, though it has come to Singapore via Batam.

It consists of a big slab of hammered flat chicken thigh, deep-fried to a lovely crispiness and served with spicy sambal chilli on a wooden plate. There are sometimes other side items to go along with it.

A *Shining* and *Dazzling* 2007!

Gosh, realised I've not written a post since Aug07!!
..aiya, have been so busy leh.. esp with the big day coming..

anyway, the start to 2008 have been fabulous so far, and i'm sure it will be even better as the year goes on. =)

Hmm, come to think about it, the last qtr of 2007 has been quite *shining* and *dazzling*...
shall name a few shiny stuff here...

1. Movie "Stardust" - the way the female lead *shines* in the movie, somehow reminds me of carebears shine... =) such a sweet show!

2. My *dazzling* 四点金 =) - Thanks to ryan-mummy for splurging despite far far exceeding her budget! Shhh.. cannot tell ryan-daddy! haha!

3. My teeth - uh, they didnt exactly shine but i thought they were whiter after that gruelling, super-duper shocking and sensationally painful session at NTUC denticare BS.. (still wondering if it was worth all that pain..) ouch!

4. My diamond-peeled face. =) all that hours spent bi-monthly at the merciness of a facial beautician who speaks with a Malaysian-accent. (By the way, I was coerced into upgradin my already four-digit worth package with a US Eye Facial recently! Sigh.. all those $$ spent!)

5. Beads of shiny perspiration - tried to jog more now for a healthier me!
(my resolution for 2008 will be to jog more, maintain discipline to pop my supplements regularly and to ALWAYS put on my retainers! Oops, that's three resolutions!)

Cheers to 2008!
